This book gives an overall view of this most historic and evocative side of the City of Exeter. The West Quarter and adjacent areas have been a fundamental aspect of Exeter’s industrial and historical development and home to local families who worked in many of the industries. The west side of the city retained many of the city’s earliest buildings and this unique series of photographs show the most famous part of the area before demolition took place in the 1930s. For many of us who have been familiar with these areas, it has a special place in our affections and regret that some of Exeter’s most interesting and historical aspects have been swept away. These photographs record the area for future generations.
